How to find a MOBA party without breaking the draft
MOBA is the one genre where you can play your own lane perfectly and still lose, because the fifth player decided he is a carry too. Five positions, five jobs on the map, and one uncovered slot breaks the draft before minute one. That is why looking for a teammate here does not start with which game you play. It starts with where you stand.
Role first, everything else second
In Dota 2 the roles are literally numbered: pos 1 carry on the safelane, pos 2 mid, pos 3 offlane, pos 4 roamer, pos 5 hard support. In League of Legends and its mobile sibling Wild Rift it is top, jungle, mid, ADC and support. Mobile Legends splits the map into gold lane, EXP lane, mid, jungle and roam. Deadlock bolts aim and movement onto the usual laning phase, but the logic is identical: someone farms souls, someone holds the lane and grabs urns, someone calls the team to mid boss.
The practical takeaway: agree on positions before you queue, not on the hero select screen. A duo that works is two people whose main roles do not overlap. Two mid mains in one party is not a party, it is a future argument about who goes top.
Why carry plus support climbs the fastest
Carry and support work as a pair because they are the only two who physically share a lane and a resource — gold. The support sees when the carry falls behind on farm and takes pressure off: wards, a stun on the roamer, a health trade before a big stack. The carry knows the person behind him will not wander off into the jungle on minute two. Same story in the LoL bot lane: ADC plus support is the most synced pair on the map, and that duo usually decides who takes the first dragon.
Things worth sorting out in the first five minutes of talking:
- Positions. Your main and your backup, and the same from them.
- Hero pool. Three or four heroes you are genuinely confident on beats a vague I play everything.
- Rank gap. One or two divisions apart is fine, four is misery for both of you.
- Play hours. If one of you starts at 11 pm and the other is asleep by then, the party never happens.
- Tilt behaviour. Ask what they do after two losses in a row — it is the most honest toxicity check there is.
How filters close the skill gap
A skill mismatch is the number one reason random duos do not last.
